The international conference "Trends in Microscopy" 2016 which was supported by DFG, took place at the CRTD from February 22 – 24, 2016. More than 220 attendees from 11 countries have been attracted by 27 high-ranking invited international speakers who presented their latest developments within five exiting sessions:
One of the highlights was contributed by Na Ji (Janelia Research Campus, US) who presented the application of wavefront shaping technology to in vivo mouse imaging of primary visual cortex stimulation. Peter Friedl (University of Texas, US) inspired the audience by presenting the application of various technologies like 3D blockface scanning EM, multiphoton, second and third harmonic generation microscopy to reveal cancer invasion mechanisms. Another highlight was Lucy Collinson (Francis Crick Institute, UK) who astonished the audience with the development and application of Correlative Light and Volume Electron Microscopy. Tomas Cizmar (University of Dundee, UK) presented stunning insights into the use of multimode waveguides as fibre-based endoscopes for imaging deep inside living organisms. On the last conference day Valentina Emiliani (Paris Descartes University, FR) introduced a fascinating multi-plane illumination technology to stimulate several single neurons simultaneously in 3D. The conference was closed by Martin Booth (University of Oxford, UK) who presented impressive adaptive optics developments for fluorescent nanoscopy.
The conference offered a unique opportunity to get in touch with forefront technology developers and also with many commercial technology providers at the company exhibiton area. The attendees enjoyed the conference very much and provided an enthusiastic feedback.
Many thanks to BioDIPs co-organizer German BioImaging, the 25 companies supporting the conference, the Scientific Advisory Board, the great TIM TEAM, and the in house support we experienced. Our special thanks go to the BOTEC/CRTD computer department that strongly supported us!
